Steeped In History
Monmouth’s real centrepiece is the gatehouse bridge over the River Wye. Built in the 13th century, Monnow Bridge is the only remaining fortified river bridge in the United Kingdom and continues to connect both sides of the town to this day. The town is also brimming with culture, with local events regularly held at theatres such as The Savoy and The Blake. Our Surroundings
On the outskirts of the town are some of the most jaw-droppings sights both Wales and England have to offer. Monmouth is right on the edge of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), so you can be sure of some amazing sights to behold on your way to the park, as well as on a day out.
The Kymin is a popular local landmark that’s worth a visit. Across the river Wye from Monmouth, this 18th century round house and naval temple is a National Trust site that boasts an amazing viewpoint that overlooks all of Monmouth.
How To Get Here
Monmouth has some useful transport links to surrounding towns and cities such as Newport, Cardiff and Gloucester. The A40 stretches all the way down towards the cities on the shores of South Wales, and back up to the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye.
